Words can be powerful. They can be used to get important points across. They can be used to bless. They are often used to hurt and sometimes they hurt unintentionally. On one hand people need to know the truth even when it hurts. But also it must always be in love. Sometimes we need to think of others’ feeling with what we say. The devil uses the tactic of twisting words so that we say things we don’t mean or the words are misinterpreted, and both can cause relationship breakdowns. What are ways we can live that reflect we are a child of God? How are we to live our lives? We have talked about “carrying your cross daily” and reading 1 John to know if we are truly saved. This is one thing 1 John says:
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
John uses the sins that Adam and Eve were seduced by causing The Fall, separating them from God and cursing all of us. Thanks God He sent His one and only Son to take our sins upon His shoulders and nail them to the cross to redeem us from our sins. How blessed we are to have a loving God and savior to do that for us. Continue reading “The 3 sins of this World”
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Often we get caught up in this world of trying to get ahead and have more things especially in America. Not only that, but why do we do the good deeds that we do? Before I do anything, I need to think to myself and pray, why am I doing this? Is it for my own gain? Is it for pride? Will it benefit someone else? It does not say you can’t have nice things or do things for yourself, but to put others first. It says to do things with the right intentions. James 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:5 quote Proverbs, “God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.”
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore, God also highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Let us be humble and follow Jesus’ example. He is God. He is our Lord. He deserves our worship. He gave Himself for us so that we could be forgiven. Being forgiven, we are children of God and we should honor Him and live for Him and share all the good He has done for us.
