Character of the Church

When I first read Hebrews 13 and the notes from a study I had (you can look up The Summit Church or J.D. Greear for his study of Hebrews; the bullet points below summarize part of this study), it seemed this was about worship.  It is.  But it is also about the character of the church.  Or, perhaps part of worship is the character of the church.  To start with, what is the church?  It is not a building and not where you “go to” to fulfill your duty as a Christian, though that is an important part of your spiritual life.  That is a time to fellowship with other believers and worship God, but our act of worship should be non-stop throughout our week and our life.  That is a study in itself, but not for this post.  What the church is, though is you and me.  It is Christ’s bride.  It is the body of believers.  It is those who follow Him. Believers Need Believers

In this world, there is so much that opposes us.  As believers, we need to surround ourselves with other godly people and lift each other up.  Of course, we need to spend time with those that do not believe and share our faith, but we must be united as a church and strengthen one another and love one another.

Who is Jesus and Who are We in Christ?

Yesterday was Easter, or as I like to call it, Resurrection Sunday.  It is not about Easter bunnies or eggs.  Those things came from a pagan religion worshipping a false god of fertility.  We need to remember what the holiday is truly about.  It is about Jesus, Who died for our sins and was raised from the dead on the third day.  It is about our redemption and salvation.  It is about God’s grace and sacrifice

So, Who is Jesus?  Some say He was a prophet, a good teacher a good person.  Some say He was only an idea (Unfortunately for them, there is overwhelming evidence that He did exist).  But He is much more than that.  For me, He is the One who changed my life, who saved me, forgave me and overcame death so that I would have eternal life.  And, He is so much more. Why Did Jesus Come?

Most of us know the story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We know that He died for our sins.  How?  Why did He have to die for our sins?  That could be a complete study in itself.  All have sinned.  All of us are guilty.  God is just and there is a payment that is needed to cleanse us of our sins.  We must be “clean” to be in His presence.  So God, in His justice and His love, provided a way to pay the penalty.  He provided a sacrifice.  The sacrifice must be pure, must be clean, without blemish.  Only in His Son, is this possible.  He loved us so much that He provided His Son to pay that penalty.  Jesus took the sins of all the world, placed them on His shoulders and gave His life on the cross.  That is what Good Friday is all about. What is our Assurance? Part 2

clouds and fire

This is the second part of scriptures on eternal security.  Are we forever saved once we accept Christ as Lord and Savior?  Or can we lose our salvation?  What do you think?  More on that in the future.  Before reading, please be sure to read through my previous post in Part 1.  When you finish and think about it. please comment.  I hope to get a good discussion.  I have friends who believe one of each of the arguments, some who may not believe in either.  I hope as you search the scriptures and pary to God, that you will have clarity.  Whatever the case may be, may you be blessed and may the Holy Spirit speak to your heart.
